In addition to the city's organized sports programs, noise track, parks, playgrounds and zoo, Idaho Falls is centrally located allowing convenient and easy access to many recreational activites in Eastern Idaho and Western Wyoming. Below are links to a few area interests - be sure to visit them all!
National Parks and Monuments
Yellowstone National Park - America's first National Park and only about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Idaho Falls! Yellowstone contains approximately one-half of the world’s hydrothermal features. There are over 10,000 hydrothermal features, including over 300 geysers, in the park.
Craters of the Moon - In places, this plain is 60 miles wide, with basalt lava deposits over 10,000 feet deep in some locations. Today you can explore an isolated landscape filled with such features as cinder cones, spatter cones, lava tubes, and several types of lava flows.
Skiing
Grand Targhee Resort - Grand Targhee is located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in Western Wyoming. Our base is at 8,000 ft in the magnificent Teton Mountain Range, 42 miles west of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and 87 miles northeast of Idaho Falls, Idaho. We are famous for our consistently superb snow conditions with over 500 inches annually.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort - With 2,500 acres of legendary inbounds terrain, a 4,139' vertical rise, 459" of average snowfall each winter, and unparalleled backcountry access, Jackson Hole offers a truly unique winter experience. Two distinct mountains in the heart of the Tetons - Rendezvous and Apres Vous - make up Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and have been home to incredible skiing and snowboarding for the past 40 years.
Kelly Canyon - Located only 26 miles from Idaho Falls, Kelly Canyon also hosts the ski team sponsored by the Idaho Falls Ski Club.
Climbing
City of Rocks - A National Reserve, City of Rocks is managed by the Idaho Department of Parks and Rec. A few granite pinnacles and monoliths are in excess of sixty stories tall and 2.5 billion years old. The smooth granite faces offer exceptional rock climbing. Today, over 500 climbing routes have been identified.
